Innenstadt (Old Town)

Trier's Innenstadt is both a concentration of landmarks and a living pedestrian zone. From the Roman gate Porta Nigra (the Black Gate) down Simeonstrasse to the Hauptmarkt (the main market square), and from there on to the Cathedral of St. Peter and the Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady). Fountains, patrician townhouses, sidewalk cafes, and four UNESCO sites all within a few hundred meters.
